Trains run almost entirely through a tunnel under the Swiss Alps to get to Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest rail station, which lies at just over 11,300 feet. After they step off the train, visitors can take the elevator to the scientific observatory atop the Sphinx mountain peak. (Jean-Christophe Wuthrich/flickr.com)
